What Do You Do

The man wearing the long hat,
beat up jacket and unwashed face
who has no pocket change

That man, the one working off of
his mistakes to feed the urchins
and stray dogs

What do you do with a man who
would rather be fed to the lions
who too are denied their grace-

A man who can feast on mace, welcome
a baton into his face and hemorrhage if
only to make his point

What if he is prepared to wear the rags
he found if only because they did not
come from some unknown factory

What do you do with him who writes
pedantic poems because his meaning
might otherwise be lost

Not by a dearth of will, mind you,
but due to a dearth of skill-

Do you think it could possibly be one of the best new poems of 2014?
