Wake Up

Open your eyes pretty face
The day has begun
The morning has won.

Stretch out and take my embrace
For you I have fun
Outside is the sun.

Pull down the sheets hear my case
There’s much to be done
Together we’re one.

A cafe for you and a vase
We’ll walk slowly not run
Your worries are none.

Wake up and give me that smile
A bounty for you
I love you it’s true.

  1. There is balance in the prosody and an uncomplicated logic that makes this ‘love’ poem easy on the mind and deep in emotion. Pete, you make words and phrases that display a real skill, a real craft. There is a literal sense in all you say and an expression that you reveal that makes the form and structure of this text absorb the reader into a quiet but firm statement of love. Thank you Pete. Love David xx

  2. What a wonderful way to wake up. This is a great write and a great read. You never fail to surprise me. my congratulations Pete. You rock.

  3. A beautiful poem, which is so tenderly crafted, and unfurls, elegantly and gently much as I imagine the sleeping does after hearing your loving coaxing words.
