To Be Liked

What I’d like to be like, really:
a quiet observer with friends and love,
a writer who would make a difference in reading,
a partner through all the storms of this life.

I strive to be like that. I try,
but I am a soul living in exile,
a mother waiting for all of her sons,
and I have forgotten what painless days feel like.

I write and see with one eye only,
I walk with a knee that won’t go at all,
I am without friends when I need them mostly.
What I like to be, is really be liked.

Todays poetry contest submission was written by Ina Schroders-Zeeders.

Do you think it could possibly be one of the best new poems of 2014?

  1. This is a beautiful poem from a gifted poet. She always manages to insert those subtle undertones into her work which give it so much depth.

  2. This short poem conveys so many important interwoven thoughts about life – a longing for deep connections with others, the challenges of living with everyday physical limitations, and the determination to keep striving nonetheless. In doing so, the poet inspires hope.

  3. Exceptional… everyday life in words of beauty and understanding…Ina is a poet to be noticed and followed…
