In your youth, fervor, and determination
You set out to improve the world!
You leap to espouse noble causes,
Your banners you seldom have furled.
But someday my fire breathing daughter
Like we who were young once before,
Surrounded by life’s broken lances
You may tilt at windmills no more!
I’ll give you no counsel for changing,
I admire your fervor and zest.
But be not too cross if your parent
Sometimes passes the battle for rest.
