Mother And Child

How beautiful this Angel
This infant newly born
Whose eyes to yet bear witness
The coming days new dawn

To first feel Moonlight’s blessing
The kiss of Sunlight’s day
And Autumn’s breath caressing
As Winter weaves its way

How heavenly to hold him
To whisper first his name
To gently breathe his essence
And know him as the same

And I pray the Lords kind mercy
Lest his days be numbered few
But his palm foretells in etchings
A life lived strong and true

The road he walks will journey
Through the wretched and sublime
And he will dance the faithless music
Of destiny and time

So I pray his dance be honest
With love, and pain, and tears
And I pray his music carries
Him well through all his years

And for you, my child, this Blessing;
May fortune on you smile
And keep kindled, love eternal
Between this mother and her child
