In certain small, old-west towns,
spread throughout these Western United States,
it’s been said that you can hear peculiar sounds
coming from beyond the cemetery gates.
They say the sounds are chillingly cold
and as dry as the desert sands,
calling out the legendary names of old,
of the gun fighters that once ruled this land.
Names like Hickok, Holiday, Jesse James,
and the legendary Wyatt Earp
are all names from the Gun Fighter’s Hall of Fame
which is located under six feet of desert earth.
Todays poetry contest entry was written by James Millegan.
Do you think it could be the best new poem in 2013?
