Grieving

Days go by and still I cry
Days turn to months while in my throat there’s lingering lumps
Months fade into years, as once again here come the tears
Wondering if I’ll ever make it through, thoughts become ones of missing you
Peering off up at the sky, with but a single question. “Why?”
Then again it doesn’t matter, I begin to hear your distant laughter
Although it is hard to swallow
What you’ve gained is a sense of freedom from your pain
So I hold my head high, because now when I cry
They’re tears of joy, grabbing your memory, like a child holds their favorite toy
