Enlightenment

If you allow yourself to stay quiet and still
the universe can whisper in your ear
And change a problem that plagued you for years
to a solution so simple it becomes perfectly clear
And give you the power to come to the light
and shed the heaviness of the loneliness each night
And let you finally understand that things don’t happen
around you or to you but that you are the happening
that’s shinning through
The dawn is not the light outside it’s the sudden awakening
that occurs inside
When the darkness which kept us from what we already knew
splits wide open and brings a new view
Of the same things we saw each and every day
but grants us the vision to see a different way
And that moment when we arrive at enlightenment
brings us closest to what we call God
with astonishment
Because when you feel that you are a part of the whole
and that you somehow matter and actually have control
In an ever-changing universe that shifts all the time
where we crawl across chaos in attempt to climb
to a higher understanding of why we are here
and try not to worry we will just disappear
We stay quiet and still and look for a sign
and hope that our dreams were somehow benign
And that the love we gave wasn’t broken or shattered
and that the time that we spent here
actually mattered
