Broken Feather

I’m trying to understand exactly what went wrong with us
And exactly what bred all the mistrust
At times all I remember are the arguments the painful words and how they left me crushed
By the time we realized the pettiness of it all adding injury to insult could be the only result
And swinging moods are an easy catapult
Leading to vicious words hitting like an uppercut
Feeding into preexisting notions of being inadequate

I’ve wanted you since forever
And I’ve had you since never
Even the moments when we were together
Were strangely distant in their splendor
Silk strings on a broken feather

But sometimes I remember your charm
And how I felt absolutely beautiful in your arms
You kept me calm
My own personal supposedly devotional psalm
This is before the dysfunction and alarm
Before we started to do each other real harm
This is the time when I placed my soul in your palm
But now all that is gone
And when we’re not lashing out we’re cold and withdrawn

I’ve wanted you since forever
And I’ve had you since never
Even the moments when we were together
Were strangely distant in their splendor
Silk strings on a broken feather

And now I sit here heart heavy with sky high walls
Demanding you to overcome all of this
Somehow expecting us to make it through all of this
Like we haven’t already been through all of this
My emotions are tired of having to give in to the myth
That without you I can’t exist
That somehow I’m your missing link
Maybe just one of us needs to admit that together we’re a deadly eclipse

I’ve wanted you since forever
And I’ve had you since never
Even the moments when we were together
Were strangely distant in their splendor
Silk strings on a broken feather
